This is Mirte (27). After studying in Antwerp, she chose adventure instead of settling down: a choice she is very satisfied with. This is her takeoff!

Not settling, but taking off

After seven years of studying in Antwerp, the Netherlands did not feel like the right destination. “It felt more like 'settling' than the adventure I was looking for,” says Mirte. “I wanted to discover something new, and Switzerland turned out to be the perfect choice for me.  There is structure here and the country is  super accessible for physios.”

That German language? Easier than you think

She is matter-of-fact about the language barrier: “Learning German turned out to be surprisingly easy. Say a Dutch word with a German accent, and it almost always works!”

My passion
Weekends feel like mini vacations

Life in Switzerland exceeds her expectations. “I work four days, which means less stress and more time for myself.  Weekends feel like mini vacations here. Every Monday, I start the week fully charged.  That balance between work and free time makes my life here so much richer.”

Four seasons, endless possibilities

“Switzerland has everything you could want,” she says enthusiastically. “In the winter you go snowboarding and skiing, in the summer you relax on the river or have a drink at the lake. And in between, you can take breathtaking hikes through the mountains.” She calls Zurich “the perfect mix of nature and a vibrant city.”

Support you can count on

The switch went smoothly thanks to takeoff. “They were there from the start, not only during my move, but also with everything that came after that. Even after 1.5 years, I can still contact them with my questions. That involvement really provides a sense of security.”

Tips from Mirte for your takeoff

“Just do it!” she encourages others. “The Netherlands isn't far away if you don't like it. But give it a chance, because it's 100% worth it.” Her concrete tips? “Start by working 60%, then you'll have time to learn the language and settle in at your own pace. And there are so many ways to meet people: from Facebook groups to expat events and running clubs.”
