An SRK request is a crucial step in your adventure as a physiotherapist in Switzerland. Although the process usually runs smoothly for physiotherapists with a European education, we always see the same mistakes with takeoff that lead to unnecessary delays. After successfully guiding more than 70 physical therapists through the SRK process, we share the 5 biggest pitfalls and how you can easily avoid them.
The Certificate of Current Professional Status (CCPS) can be up to 3 months old when you submit your complete SRK file. Many physical therapists request this document too early or let it expire while collecting other papers. In the Netherlands, you can apply for the CCPS at the BIG register, which takes 4-6 weeks. We recommend that you apply for the CCPS during the PreCheck, so you don't have to wait for it when submitting all documents for the final SRK check.
The SRK only accepts translations from certified translators and all parts of a document must be translated, including stamps and attachments. A common mistake is choosing an uncertified translator or having documents translated incompletely. Only use certified translators who are recognized by the SRK and make sure that literally everything is translated. Investing in a professional translation saves months of delays.
For a definitive SRK recognition, you need a B2 German certificate, which requires an average of 6-12 months of intensive study. Many physical therapists think they only have to start with Learn German after their PreCheck. Start as early as possible, even before you submit your PreCheck. This way, you can work on your language level in parallel with your SRK process and immediately receive full recognition.
The SRK compares your training with the Swiss standard of 5400 hours over 4 years. Many physical therapists submit vague educational information without specifying theoretical subjects, practical training and internships. With your physiotherapy course, request a detailed overview of all courses with exact numbers of hours. Clearly document your internships with a minimum of 1440 hours of clinical experience.
Physical therapists sometimes plan their move to Switzerland without taking actual lead times into account. Collecting documents, translations and waiting for your CCPS often takes longer than the SRK process itself. Plan at least 8-12 months between your decision and desired start date. Make a checklist (or even better: use ours) and systematically complete all points.
At takeoff, we developed our digital platform to prevent exactly these errors. You will receive a personalized checklist with all necessary documents, including sample documents. We check all your papers before they go to the SRK and ensure correct translations. Our in-house German teacher will help you achieve the right language level in time.
We also guide you with practical issues such as the arranging your health insurance and it organizing your moveso that you are fully prepared for your new life.
