Are you going to live and work in Switzerland? Then, unfortunately, you cannot take most of the insurances you have now with you. This primarily applies to your basic health insurance and supplementary health insurances, but also to your travel insurance and liability insurance. Wondering what extra insurance you need before you start your adventure in Switzerland? In this article, we have listed the four most important additional insurances in Switzerland for you.

Do you want to have everything properly arranged right away? Fill us contact form in and Joel from insurance company CSS (where almost all our physiotherapists are insured) will contact you to arrange everything with you.

Haftpflichtversicherung (liability insurance)

A Haftpflichtversicherung is required by most landlords in Switzerland. This insurance covers you against damage you may cause to the home, as well as personal injury claims and damage to other people's property.
It is useful to know that many insurers also offer coverage for damage caused by sports or pets. Some even offer extra key loss coverage. Always keep a copy of your policy for your host - they often want to see proof that you are properly insured.

Hausratversicherung (household insurance)

Home insurance protects your personal belongings against fire, theft, accidents (cup of coffee over your laptop!) water and natural disasters, both at home and on the road (with outdoor coverage). It is wise to take photos of valuables and keep purchase receipts. Many insurers also offer coverage for bicycles and items you use outside the home. Are you renting a furnished home? Then household insurance is often made mandatory by the landlord.

Rechtsschutz-Versicherung (legal expenses insurance)

In Switzerland, legal proceedings can be quite lengthy. Legal expenses insurance covers the costs in the event of disputes in the private sphere, traffic,
employment disputes and rental issues. However, pay attention to the waiting period before coverage takes effect and check that employment law is co-insured - especially important if you're just starting to work in Switzerland.

Reiseversicherung (travel insurance)

Your domestic travel insurance is no longer valid if you move to Switzerland. It is therefore important to take out Swiss travel insurance. It offers global coverage for expenses due to illness, accidents, emergency transport and repatriation. Costs are also often reimbursed in case of cancellation, loss of baggage and you are entitled to legal assistance abroad. When concluding, pay attention to the maximum travel time per trip and whether winter sports are included - especially useful if you live in Switzerland! In addition, we recommend that you always check that your electronics and sports equipment are adequately covered.
